AC Milan and Newcastle United reportedly face more competition in their pursuit for Sven Botman, with two unnamed Premier League clubs now in the race to sign the defender.
According to CalcioMercato, two sides from England’s top-flight have entered the growing list of clubs interested in signing Botman, with Milan and Newcastle the two favourites for the LOSC Lille superstar.
- Three players who could replace Fernandinho at Manchester City
- £166m superstar among best XI of under-23 free agents this summer
Botman is set to leave France this summer after establishing himself as one of Ligue 1’s top central defenders and a key clog for Lille’s title-winning squad last season, with Les Dogues’ open to selling the Netherlands youngster.
Milan and Newcastle were both keen on signing Botman in January, with Lille demanding a reported £42m for the 22-year-old defender at the time. However, it is expected that the centre-back will leave Lille this summer for a much cheaper transfer fee.
As per the CalcioMercato report, though, it is looking likely that Milan will still win the race for Botman, with the Serie A champions desperate to add the defender to their ranks in the upcoming transfer window.
A centre-back is at the top of Milan’s shopping list, and given Botman’s profile, age and ability, it makes a lot of sense why the Italian giants want to beat Newcastle and these new unnamed Premier League sides to the signing.
Milan should not fear Newcastle interest or new Premier League duo

Newcastle’s interest in Botman has been documented for some time, and whilst two more Premier League sides are interested in the defender, Milan should consider themselves the heavy favourites to sign the centre-back.
After all, the Rossoneri are coming off the back of their first title win in over a decade, and for Botman, playing in the UEFA Champions League for a top side sounds like an incredible opportunity despite Premier League interest.
