Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are now facing competition from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United for Lille central defender Sven Botman, according to TMW.
TMW have reported that Newcastle are strongly interested in signing Botman from Lille in the summer transfer window.
The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that the defender has an agreement with AC Milan, who won the Serie A title this season, and that Manchester United have joined the race for the 22-year-old in the last few days.
Lille reportedly want €30 million (£25.50 million) for Botman.
Manchester United’s Sven Botman interest blow for Newcastle United
The Northern Echo reported this week that Newcastle United are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Sven Botman after holding talks, but Manchester United’s interest does make things complicated.
Yes, we know that Newcastle are a big club and have rich owners, and they wanted to sign the defender in the January transfer window.

So, Botman will be well aware of how much Newcastle like him and want him.
However, Manchester United are arguably the biggest club in England, and the chance to be part of an exciting future at Old Trafford under Dutch compatriot Ten Hag could be too tempting to resist.
And let’s not forget that AC Milan are back to being a force to be reckoned with in Italy and could start on a venture to conquer Europe in the coming years.
