Rangers have been handed a fascinating Champions League draw.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side only qualified for the competition last night by winning 1-0 away to PSV Eindhoven.

And their reward is, well, questionable.

On the one hand, Rangers will be facing some massive clubs like Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli in the group stages.

On the other, supporters of the Ibrox outfit might not be expecting to progress into the last 16, such is the quality of their opponents.

There is, however, an interesting subplot to the Ajax games.

Rangers sold Calvin Bassey to the Eredivisie giants during the summer transfer window in a £23 million deal.

And courtesy of Ajax’s Twitter feed, here’s how the big man reacted to the draw:

It’ll be fascinating to see how Van Bronckhorst’s troops do.

There’s no doubt that they’re the underdogs to qualify from the group but, having said that, write off this Rangers side at your peril.

Remember, earlier this year they beat Borussia Dortmund en route to the Europa League final and that in itself is a massive example of how unpredictable the Gers can be.

Everyone knows Liverpool produce electric atmospheres on Champions League nights, but Ibrox will be similar.

This is a club that nearly drifted into oblivion a decade ago, making European nights much more special as a result and no doubt opposition teams must be wary of that factor.
