Steven Bergwijn caught up with an old Tottenham Hotspur pal last night.
The Dutch winger helped the Netherlands to a 2-1 victory away to Wales in a Nations League outing.
And afterwards, Bergwijn was photographed with a certain Gareth Bale.
The two wingers spent a full season in the same Tottenham squad during the 2020-21 campaign, with Bale returning to North London on loan from Real Madrid.
Within weeks, they could both be ex-Tottenham players.
That’s because Bergwijn hasn’t started a game under Antonio Conte since January and with the World Cup looming large later this year, regular football is massive for the former PSV Eindhoven attacker.
Bergwijn said as much on Tuesday, revealing to Dutch media that his suitcase was already packed in the context of leaving the Lilywhites during the summer.
And honestly, a departure is best for all parties.
Conte clearly doesn’t fancy the Dutchman as much as other options and although he has game-changing qualities, evident by his stoppage-time double against Leicester City last season, he needs to be starting every week and that won’t happen at Tottenham.
According to ESPN, Spurs want £21 million for the player and if they’re successful in reaching that figure, well everybody will walk away happy.
