Speaking live on Sky Sports‘ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme at 14:25 on February 11th, Paul Merson offered his opinion on Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce hauling his side in at 7am on Sunday for training, following their humiliating 4-0 home defeat against Sunderland last week.
The Eagles boss has failed to make the impact that was expected of him following his appointment in December.

And last Saturday was a real low point in not only his time at Selhurst Park, but throughout the entirety of his career within the game.
Allardyce reacted by ordering the players in for extra training at 7am (the Guardian), and Paul Merson believes it was a step too far from the former England boss, telling Sky Sports‘ Gillette Soccer Saturday programme:

“There’s no need for that. Not 7 o’clock, just say meet at 10 or 9. I think it’s quite childish to be honest. If I was playing I would have been fuming, I would have thought what are you doing?”

The south London outfit have managed just one league win since Allardyce took over, and the former West Ham and Newcastle boss has his work cut-out if he is to guide his side away from trouble.

But with games against Middlesbrough and West Brom on the horizon, they do at least have an opportunity to gather some momentum as they head into the final third of their campaign.
