Robert Kraft has outlined clear conditions before supporting the NFL’s proposed move to an 18-game regular season, showing cautious approval rather than full backing.

The Patriots owner has long been influential in league decisions, and his stance carries weight as discussions around expanding the schedule continue.

While the idea of an extra game is gaining traction, Kraft made it clear it cannot come without adjustments. His position reflects a balance between growth and player welfare.

Robert Kraft sets conditions for NFL 18th game proposal

Speaking in comments shared by NFL analyst Ari Meirov, Kraft outlined the specific changes he wants to see.

“Patriots owner Robert Kraft told reporters he’s in favor of an 18th regular season game under these conditions,” Meirov revealed.

He added: “Remove one preseason game (from 3 to 2). Add a second bye. All 32 NFL teams would have an international game every year.”

Kraft’s proposal aims to offset the added physical demands of an extra regular-season game. Reducing preseason and adding another bye would help manage player workload.

At the same time, expanding international games highlights the league’s global ambitions. The NFL continues to push for growth beyond the United States. That combination shows Kraft is open to change, but only under structured conditions.

NFL 18-game schedule debate centers on player welfare and expansion

The push for an 18th game has been a major talking point across the league, with owners and executives weighing financial benefits against player health concerns.

Supporters see increased revenue and global reach as key advantages. More games would mean higher broadcast value and greater international exposure.

However, players and coaches have raised concerns about the physical toll. Extending the season without proper adjustments could increase injury risk.

That is where proposals like Kraft’s become important. Adding a second bye week is widely seen as a necessary compromise.

The discussion is still ongoing, with league approval required before any changes are implemented. But Kraft’s stance shows how negotiations are likely to take shape. Ultimately, the decision will come down to balancing business growth with player safety.
