Bill Belichick’s absence from the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot has prompted a public response from the New England Patriots owner, despite the long-discussed personal tension between the two.
Belichick’s record with the franchise remains unmatched in modern NFL history, making the timing and optics of his Hall of Fame status a point of renewed debate.
That discussion intensified after the Patriots’ owner, Robert Kraft, addressed both Belichick’s legacy and their relationship directly.

In a statement shared publicly and circulated by NFL reporter Mike Reiss on social media, the Patriots’ owner addressed Belichick’s credentials and the perception of their relationship.
“Whatever perceptions may exist about any personal differences between Bill and me, I strongly believe Bill Belichick’s record and body of work speak for themselves,” Kraft began.
“As head coach of the New England Patriots for more than two decades, he set the standard for on-field excellence, preparation, and sustained success in the free agency and salary cap era of the National Football League,” he continued.
Kraft concluded, stating: “He is the greatest coach of all time and he unequivocally deserves to be a unanimous first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer.”
The comments left little ambiguity about where the owner stands on Belichick’s place in football history, regardless of how their working relationship ended.
