Jermaine Jenas has taken to Twitter to react after Tottenham completed the signing of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal.
Daniel Levy has sanctioned a six-month deal for the Netherlands international, which The Times believe cost Spurs a £2.5m loan fee, while there is also an option to buy him on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
Despite Danjuma impressing in the Champions League for Villarreal, Jenas is not convinced by his arrival in N17.
What’s the story?
Well, Jenas – who made 202 appearances for Tottenham – believes it is an “odd” deal for Spurs.
The 39-year-old feels it doesn’t make much sense to sell Steven Bergwijn – another Netherlands international – and bring Danjuma to north London, stating that other areas of the squad are in greater need of strengthening.
Jenas wrote: “Selling Steven Bergwijn and brining in Danjuma on loan just feels odd to me. Of all the positions that needs sorting out this isn’t it. GK, centre half, wingbacks, and creative midfielder all needed.”
It’s hard to disagree.
As previously mentioned here on HITC, the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Clement Lenglet are not reliable enough for Tottenham to compete at the highest level, while the right wing-back department is just as bad.
Thankfully, it seems as if a deal for Pedro Porro is close to being completed, so the Sporting Lisbon No.24 should represent a considerable upgrade on Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.
Danjuma to Tottenham makes a bit of sense
While it is a strange deal, given the fact Antonio Conte already has Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, Lucas Moura and Ivan Perisic to play in his three attacking positions, the signing of Danjuma makes some sense.

For example, Spurs made £26.4m from selling Bergwijn to Ajax back in July, whereas Danjuma is only costing a £2.5m loan fee, which will hopefully free up funds to improve the areas mentioned by Jenas.
If Danjuma turns out to be the only arrival this month, however, then supporters should continue to make their frustrations known to Levy – in truth, they should remain on his case regardless.
