- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands that Nottingham Forest have opened talks with Feyenoord over a deal for striker Santiago Gimenez.
Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side are pushing to get a deal over the line for the 23-year-old Mexican striker.
Sources have told HITC that Nottingham Forest have made an offer of €25million (£21million) and are now in talks to try and agree a deal with the Rotterdam giants.
Forest have had a ‘concrete’ interest in Gimenez throughout the summer and they have now acted on that interest.
HITC is told that Feyenoord are not keen on selling Santiago Gimenez at this point of the window, but it is believed that the player is open to the idea of moving to England and the Premier League.
Gimenez was in fine form for Feyenoord under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot last season, scoring 26 goals in all competitions. He was hailed as “fantastic” by Feyenoord icon Mario Been.
He has carried that momentum into the new season, scoring a brace against PEC Zwolle on Saturday afternoon. It is understood that Forest representatives were present at the match to watch Gimenez in action.

Nottingham Forest to beat Premier League rivals to statement signing
Forest view the capture of Gimenez as a significant transfer coup and are pushing to get a deal done.
The Feyenoord star has long been linked with a move to England and was on Tottenham‘s radar this summer.
Spurs had held talks with Gimenez over a potential move before they ultimately turned their attention to the £65million deal for Dominic Solanke.
Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham have all looked closely at Gimenez over the past 12 months but have not advanced their interest.
Liverpool had also monitored Gimenez with Slot a big admirer of the striker, but the Reds are unlikely to move for another attacker during this summer window.

Forest are hopeful that their £21million offer is enough to beat their Premier League rivals to Gimenez’s signature and lure him to the City Ground.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are next in action on Saturday afternoon against Southampton. Only time will tell if Forest can get a deal over the line for Gimenez in time for that Premier League clash.
