Emiliano Martinez played well for Arsenal in the final weeks of last season, but in the end, manager Mikel Arteta decided to keep Bernd Leno as his number one between the posts and the Argentine goalkeeper left for Aston Villa last summer.
While Leno has had an indifferent season and has made mistakes and could reportedly leave Arsenal this summer, Martinez has been superb for Villa and has been one of the best players for Dean Smith’s side.
The 28-year-old has been so good that former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher named him as the Goalkeeper of the Season and had him in his Premier League Team of the Season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane believes that Martinez has been good this season, but, unlike Carragher, he does not think that he has been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this campaign.
Keane said on Sky Sports Premier League (5:55pm, May 13, 2021) when told that Carragher has named Martinez as the best goalkeeper this season: “I am not sure I would go that far. He has had a very good season. I think the stats are fantastic. He has been a huge signing for Aston Villa.”
Liverpool star Alisson and Manchester City ace Ederson are the two best goalkeepers in the Premier League, but Edouard Mendy of Chelsea has arguably been the best this season.

However, Martinez’s impact at Villa cannot be denied.
One of the reasons why the Villans are not battling relegation at the moment is due to the Argentine keeping clean sheets and being a safe pair of hands.
Martinez is flourishing away from Arsenal. Perhaps leaving the Gunners last summer was the best decision that the Argentine could have made.
