Darren Bent thinks the Crystal Palace job ‘isn’t big enough’ for Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to take in the summer, but he could see a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Relegation-threatened Crystal Palace have just drafted in Roy Hodgson until the end of the season, after sacking Patrick Vieira, as Antonio Conte could follow suit at Spurs this week.
After Conte’s rant, when Tottenham let a 3-1 lead slip to draw 3-3 at bottom-of-the-table Southampton, Daniel Levy is now set to make the decision to sack the outspoken coach.
If that is pushed forward, then it doesn’t seem as though a new long-term face will be brought in now by Daniel Levy, but in the summer.
One name that has been thrown about, both for the Spurs and Palace jobs, is that of Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany, who is on course to help Burnley, not just get promoted to the Premier League, but do it in a record-breaking fashion.
When Darren Bent was asked about what type of move Vincent Kompany should make in the summer, he issued the following response, as he told talkSPORT.
“I think I will stay (if a team comes for Kompany in the summer),” said Bent. “It depends on which team comes for you.
“If it’s going to be a team that’s going to be fighting relegation, then no, you might as well stay where you are. You understand your surroundings and the club you are at. He has done a fantastic job there.
“But I guess if there is someone like a Tottenham maybe, or someone of that ilk.
On Kompany to Palace: “Again, what are Palace’s aspirations? I know they are a bigger club than Burnley, I have no doubts about that. They have been in the Premier League for a long time. What are their aspirations? Same as Burnley, to stay in the Premier League? Top ten? So, I’m not sure that’s a big enough job for Vincent Kompany to leave where he is now.”
THE ‘IMMACULATE’ VINCENT KOMPANY
Over the weekend, Championship table-toppers Burnley were thrashed 6-0 by Manchester City in the FA Cup, with Kompany labelled ‘immaculate’ for how he reacted to that defeat.
The former Belgium international is someone going from strength to strength, and whilst he will get promoted with Burnley in the summer, there is no doubt that he will be in the dugout of a team high up the Premier League sooner rather than later.
Of course, those at Turf Moor will want him to stay on for a few years yet because he is cooking up something very special for the Clarets.
