Don Hutchison thinks Daniel Levy should look towards Burnley boss Vincent Kompany as Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager amid doubt over Antonio Conte’s future.
The former Premier League midfielder noted how ‘immaculate’ and ‘perfect’ Vincent Kompany was, despite his Championship table-topping side losing 6-0 to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the FA Cup.
That was the first time Kompany returned to the club where he is an all-time legend and faced off against his former manager, but it wasn’t the return that he wanted.
Whilst Burnley are top of the tree in England’s second tier, on the verge of getting promoted to the Premier League, and doing that in a record-breaking fashion.
The Clarets are still far away from the big guns in the Premier League, although, with better resources and quality of players, would Kompany be able to take that step up?! Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist backed that call and says it ‘makes sense’.
Well, making that possible move to Spurs would provide that for the 36-year-old, with Hutchison backing that move, as he told Premier League Productions (20/03/23 at 4:05 pm).
“I listened to Vincent Kompany speaking after they got battered six (by Manchester City),” said Hutchison. “And he was immaculate, in what he said after the game. He was perfect in everything he said.
“I’ve not got a dog in the fight, but if I am Tottenham, then I want to see someone like Vincent Kompany or I want to see what De Zerbi is doing at Brighton, at Tottenham.”
KOMPANY SHOULD STAY PUT
As Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard have proven, taking that step up, as big-name former players who are now managers, might not get the desired results.
There is and shouldn’t be a rush from Kompany. He has many years left to learn his trade, and then take that step up.
And some might even argue that the Manchester City job will be his when Pep Guardiola leaves, that’s if he continues to progress in his ways.
