Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for Tottenham Hotspur manager target Xabi Alonso.

A claim was made on Wednesday that the Bayer Leverkusen coach is Spurs’ No.1 target for the role.

Sky pundit Jamie Redknapp has praised Xabi Alonso while reacting to the speculation about him being in line to become the next Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Jamie Redknapp raves about Tottenham manager target Xabi Alonso

The Spaniard has done such a phenomenal job at Leverkusen that a report on Wednesday also claimed that Florentino Perez has earmarked him as Real Madrid’s next manager if Carlo Ancelotti leaves in the summer.

Even Jose Mourinho made the claim that a player as intelligent as the ex-Los Blancos great was always destined to become a ‘very good coach’, even before his managerial career started.

As Xabi Alonso continually gets linked with the Tottenham manager job, Jamie Redknapp has reacted to the rumours.

“Since he’s gone there [Bayer Leverkusen], the transformation in that team has been astronomical. So, he obviously knows what he’s doing. Such a classy guy, classy player”, he said via Football Daily.

“So, I’m not surprised Tottenham are in for him but there will be a lot of clubs as well.”

HITC View: Risky appointment to say the least

Much like another Tottenham manager target in Vincent Kompany, as ‘astronomical’ an impact as Xabi Alonso has had in Germany, as Jamie Redknapp said, he is still far too inexperienced for the job.

There is still no indication about the club’s next sporting director as well as Harry Kane’s future while there is a distinct lack of tactical identity and the recruitment has been underwhelming for over a decade.

With so much left to fix at the club, would it really be sensible to hand the reins to a coach who is yet to complete a full season of management in Europe?

The answer is a resounding no, without taking away from the promise Alonso has shown up until now.
