It has been claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager target Xabi Alonso has been targeted by Real Madrid as the ideal successor to Carlo Ancelotti.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported on Tuesday that the Bayer Leverkusen boss was the leading candidate to take over the Spurs job.

However, a fresh revelation indicates that Tottenham Hotspur manager target Xabi Alonso has also attracted interest from Real Madrid.

The retired Spanish legend has done an incredible job at Leverkusen, spearheading them to sixth place in the Bundesliga after what looked to be a disastrous campaign as they seemed primed for relegation at one point.

In addition, the German side are in the semi-final of the Europa League, with many deeming Alonso as one of the best up-and-coming coaches in Europe.

As Tottenham Hotspur were seemingly exploring the option of appointing Xabi Alonso as their next manager, BILD have reported that if Carlo Ancelotti becomes the next Brazil boss, the former is viewed by Real Madrid as the perfect replacement.

So much so that club president Florentino Perez considerers the former Liverpool midfielder as the ‘ideal solution’ and believes that he is far more well-equipped than Castilla boss Raul for the task at hand.

Los Blancos are believed to be following Alonso’s ascent as a promising coach in Germany.

If given a choice between becoming the manager of Tottenham or Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso is almost guaranteed to choose the latter.

For starters, the World Cup winner has history with the champions of Europe, having experienced the prime of his career at the club.

In addition, not only have Spurs been unsuccessful for years on but lack a structure in place that would potentially make them turn around their fortunes anytime soon.

For Tottenham to attract names like Xabi Alonso, they must make in-house changes to make themselves a tempting proposition in the first place.
