Shay Given has stated that he likes Newcastle United transfer target Conor Gallagher ‘a lot’ after he scored for Chelsea during their 3-1 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
The former goalkeeper mentioned that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have been ‘linked’ with the 23-year-old Chelsea star.
It has been a season of turmoil at Stamford Bridge, which could see a host of big names, including Conor Gallagher, heading for the exit door when the summer transfer window opens.

The Athletic reported back in March that Howe ‘loves’ Gallagher as a player and he is a target ahead of the summer – although, both Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and German giants, Borussia Dortmund are also interested.
Even though the England midfielder has been a ray of sunshine for Frank Lampard in recent weeks, he won his first game since returning to the club yesterday and it will be interesting to see Chelsea’s reaction if money is put on the table for their academy star.
In recent seasons, he has been out on loan to West Brom and Crystal Palace, but with Euro 2024 around the corner, then Gallagher now needs regular minutes, with Shay Given touching upon the player’s goal at Dean Court, as he told Premier League Productions (06/05/23 at 5:15 pm).
“I like Conor Gallagher a lot,” said Given. “Chelsea are a team that’s struggling, but I like him as a player. He has actually been linked to Newcastle.
“But it’s a midfielder arriving into the box and it’s a brilliant header from Gallagher.”

GALLAGHER SHOULD LEAVE CHELSEA
Whilst there have been suggestions that Mauricio Pochettino will be the club’s next manager, nothing is yet clear about next season.
Gallagher was part of Gareth Southgate’s squad that went to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, if he wants to go to the Euros in Germany the following summer, then he needs regular starts in the Premier League to showcase his goalscoring talent.
Will he get that at Stamford Bridge given the number of players he has to compete with and no clear idea as to what will happen going forward? The answer is probably no, so it’s best if he finds a new home.
