Chelsea now want to hand Wilfried Zaha to Mauricio Pochettino – a player the Argentine tried to sign during his time at Tottenham.

The Daily Mail believe the South American admires the Ivory Coast international, and could finally get the chance to work alongside him at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham and Pochettino actually bid £12m to sign Zaha from Crystal Palace in August 2016 – an offer Steve Parish, Chairman of the south Londoners, branded “ridiculous” at the time.

Now, the 51-year-old and the 30-year-old’s paths may soon cross.

What’s the story?

Well – according to the Daily Mail – Chelsea are serious contenders to sign Zaha on a free transfer this summer.

The Ivorian becomes a free agent in July, and while Crystal Palace have offered him a new deal worth £200,000-a-week, his future remains uncertain with no decision taken as of yet.

Zaha – who Crystal Palace signed back from Manchester United for just £3m – also has an offer from Saudi Arabia, while Marseille, Napoli, Inter and AC Milan are interested as well.

Zaha would be a fool to join Chelsea

If Zaha decides to join Chelsea, it would be a terrible decision.

The Blues already have a number of attackers who are struggling to either play or perform right now.

In the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday evening, Chelsea had Kai Havertz, Joao Felix, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Hakim Ziyech all on the bench, which suggests they have stockpiled far too many forwards.

If players of that quality have been left in reserve, and the likes of Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are also at Stamford Bridge, Zaha’s chances of game time would seem slim.

Even if he does get on the pitch, Chelsea are a mess right now, and it may take a few years until they get back into a position where they can challenge for silverware.

With Zaha now in his thirties and looking for his last realistic chance to win titles, a move to Chelsea would therefore be a very strange decision.
