Newcastle United may have missed out on Marc Guehi but they are now preparing a big bid for a Premier League winger.

It has been an underwhelming transfer window for the Tyneside club, with Eddie Howe and new sporting director Paul Mitchell missing out on their top targets.

Newcastle pushed hard to sign Marc Guehi, but the Crystal Palace star is set to stay put at Selhurst Park after multiple bids were rejected.

It is expected that the Magpies will now end the transfer window without signing a new defender, but HITC revealed that Newcastle remain hopeful of landing a right-sided winger before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

With just hours remaining until the window slams shut, Newcastle United are ready to submit a bid for a Premier League star.

Newcastle prepare £40m bid for Anthony Elanga

HITC understands that Newcastle are in talks with Nottingham Forest over a last-gasp deal for Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle are ready to pay £40million to sign the 22-year-old, who has been described as “electric“.

They are in talks with Forest over a deal and are hopeful of reaching an agreement before Friday’s deadline.

Newcastle have been in the market for a right-sided forward as a long-term replacement for Miguel Almiron, and Elanga is now their top target.

Newcastle previously showed an interest in Elanga during talks with Forest over their deal for Elliot Anderson.

Newcastle could end deadline day with a bang

There hasn’t been much excitement around Newcastle’s transfer business this summer and missing out on Guehi has only dampened the mood around St James’ Park.

There was a growing feeling that Newcastle needed a marquee signing to lift the mood for the upcoming season and Elanga’s arrival would do just that.

However, HITC understands that a deal is currently looking difficult as Forest would want to source a replacement for Elanga and they are running out of time before the deadline.

The ball is now in Forest’s court – they paid just £15m to sign Elanga from Manchester United last summer and could now bank a huge profit from the Swedish star.
