As Newcastle United prepare to face Southampton in the 1st leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, we tried our hand at calling their predicted lineup for the clash.

Despite succumbing to a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on the weekend, it is expected that Eddie Howe will not tinker with his starting XI too much.

To the extent that we expect the Magpies to just make a single change from the side that faced Palace.

Newcastle United predicted lineup vs Southampton

Nick Pope is set to start in between the sticks in our Newcastle predicted lineup against Southampton in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Until the club bring in an able backup to Kieran Trippier in January, it is unlikely to see him being benched anytime soon.

The impregnable centre-back pairing of Fabian Schar and Sven Botman expectedly retain their places in our Newcastle United predicted lineup against Southampton.

Much in the same vein as the rest of the side so far, Dan Burn is also almost certain to start from the off.

Considering Eddie Howe confirmed (as relayed by the club on Twitter) that Bruno Guimaraes came through his start against Palace without feeling any niggles, he looks set to retain his place in the XI.

Another midfielder that is expected to keep his place is the in-form Joe Willock.

However, we expect Joelinton to drop back into midfield from the left-wing role he has been occupying lately in our Newcastle predicted lineup against Southampton.

This would lead to Sean Longstaff being benched, as we expect Allan Saint-Maximin, once described as ‘unplayable’ by Jamie Redknapp to start proceedings, seeing how Newcastle have struggled to create and score goals since the return of club football.

Despite Callum Wilson having failing to hit the back of the net since late October, we still expect Eddie Howe to keep his faith in the Englishman.

On the right flank of course, Miguel Almiron has achieved undroppable status at this point.

Newcastle United predicted lineup vs Southampton: Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Willock, Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin.
