Newcastle United are now the latest side to join Liverpool in the ever-growing race to sign Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma in the next transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

The Netherlands forward has flourished since joining the La Liga outfit from Bournemouth last summer. He has also taken to the Champions League like a duck to water and thrived to help the Submarino Amarillo sit within 90-minutes of eliminating Juventus in the last 16.

Villarreal drew 1-1 at home to the Serie A side on Tuesday with Danjuma featuring through the centre. He also occupied a striker role in the group stage against BSC Young Boys and Atalanta, returning three goals. While also tormenting Manchester United on the left-flank.

Danjuma welcomed Juventus to the Ceramica on the back of hitting a hat-trick at Granada last Saturday. The 25-year-old’s treble moved to the Lagos, Nigeria-born dynamo onto 12 goals and three assists for the season so far. He has also only played 22 games, starting 18.

The forward’s stellar showings in Spain now have the Magpies, plus Everton and West Ham considering summer bids. He has also long been on the Reds’ radar, as The Athletic noted last month they continue to track Danjuma after Marca first cited their interest last August.

Liverpool missed out on Danjuma’s transfer last year to Villarreal in a £21m deal, and now risk missing out to Newcastle, Everton or West Ham as further Premier League sides join in.

The former Bournemouth star has proven he can perform at the top level since joining the Submarino Amarillo. His efforts in the Champions League against Manchester United truly showed the threat he can offer. With Michael Owen waxing lyrical over the five-cap star.

“He was absolutely exceptional [at Old Trafford],” Owen said on BT Sport. “He plays on that left side and he’s very direct, he can beat players, he can score goals and he comes in and he’s an attacking player, and he gave that Manchester United defence a real scare.”

Villarreal will be loath to sell Danjuma to Liverpool, Newcastle, Everton or West Ham within a year of his transfer. He is also under contract until 2026, on a deal The Athletic add has a €75m (£63m) release clause. Interested clubs can activate the clause at any time they wish.
