Alan Shearer has said that Alexander Isak could prove to be the difference-maker in whether Newcastle United finish in the top four or not at the end of the 2022/2023 season.

The £120,000-a-week man proved key for Eddie Howe’s side in their latest 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest, scoring a brilliant brace, including a Zlatan Ibrahimovic-esque opener. Gary Neville described Isak as a ‘real threat’, while Jermaine Defoe labelled him as ‘top class.’

In his Premier League Team of The Week, Alan Shearer has said that Alexander Isak could be vital to his Newcastle United side potentially securing a spot in the top four.

While the 23-year-old’s debut campaign at St. James’ Park has been marred by injuries, he has shown enough flashes to suggest why has always been one of the most highly-regarded up-and-coming strikers in Europe.

Against Nottingham Forest, Alexander Isak did the same for Newcastle which led Alan Shearer to emphasise how pivotal he could be for his side to get into the top four this term.

“In a team that’s been struggling to score goals, Isak can provide the firepower to push Newcastle back into the top four.”

Alan Shearer is absolutely right

With the Magpies currently having played two games lesser than Tottenham while just being two behinds them as well in 5th place, Champions League qualification looks like a realistic possibility.

Considering Callum Wilson’s form has dropped off since the World Cup for Newcastle, Alexander Isak could take up the goalscoring mantel and fire Newcastle into the top four, as Alan Shearer suggested.

The Swedish frontman is an all-round threat, seeing how smooth he is on the ball alongside his bags of pace, which when coupled with his eye for goal gives his side a real chance of getting into the top four.
