So far this summer, Newcastle haven’t exactly been the big spenders many expected them to be.
Of course, the signing of Sven Botman wasn’t cheap – £35m to be exact – but other than him, the Magpies have only signed Nick Pope in a deal worth £10m, while also tying down Matt Targett on a permanent basis.
However, there are more targets in the pipeline, and if Dan Ashworth can get two particular deals over the line, Eddie Howe could have one of the deadliest trios in England on his hands.
What’s the story?
Well, Newcastle already have Bruno Guimaraes, and they could soon reunite the Brazilian with two players he starred alongside at Lyon – Lucas Paqueta and Maxwel Cornet.
In regards to the latter, it has been said that Newcastle are ready to trigger the £17.5m release clause written into his contract at Burnley, after the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League.
Elsewhere, Newcastle are thinking about shattering their club-record transfer fee to bring Lucas Paqueta to the Premier League, a player who is close friends with Bruno.

In fact, the Brazilian has been keeping a close eye on his pal’s progress on Tyneside, and is believed to be interested in joining him at St James’ Park.
Therefore, if Ashworth gets this double deal over the line, Newcastle would have a trio who are likely to require no time to gel whatsoever.
Bruno, Paqueta & Cornet could thrive at Newcastle
During their time together at Lyon, Paqueta shared a pitch on 42 occasions with Bruno, while he and Cornet played together 31 times.
Together, Paqueta and Bruno helped Lyon win two points per game, which is a very impressive average, while he and Cornet earned 2.03 points per game.
Clearly, the trio help the team succeed with their efforts and do not just play for themselves, which should encourage Howe to get a deal done.

Cornet proved he can do it in the Premier League last season with nine goals for Burnley, while Bruno has also proven himself with five goals in just 11 starts in England’s top-flight.
In Paqueta’s case, he is unproven on these shores, but seeing as he was named Best Foreign Player in France last season, we are confident he’ll shine if he joined Newcastle.
