Talksport co-host Neil Warnock has delivered some potentially worrying news for Nottingham Forest fans regarding the future of Oliver Burke.

Burke has had an impressive start to the 2016-17 season, scoring three goals from four Championship outings.

Unsurprisingly, the teenager’s form is said to have alerted a string of Premier League sides ahead of Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

The Sun reported on Thursday that an £8 million bid had already been made by Sunderland, while a report in Friday’s Mirror claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Burke’s signature.

However, according to Warnock, the identity of any interested parties might as well be irrelevant, as far as Forest are concerned.

“If he does stay beyond next week I’ll be very, very surprised,” the former Sheffield United boss said while co-hosting Friday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.

“He’s a very exciting prospect: positive; scores goals – all the attributes that you want and he’s only 19, he’s only been playing two minutes.

“I don’t know whether the takeover’s gone ahead yet at Forest so you don’t know whether they might have to get some money in.

“It would depend on the sort of money they’re talking about. They’re talking about £6-8 million, which is a lot for a 19-year-old.”

Warnock’s comments have only allayed the fears raised by the Mirror’s report, which claimed that Forest officials are resigned to cashing in on Burke this window.

The winger, who is a product of the Reds’ academy, made his first-team bow two seasons ago and established himself as a regular last term, with his club form prompting a first international appearance for Scotland earlier this year.
