Cameron Carter-Vickers has already proved to be a crucial part of Celtic’s pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title – and the Tottenham loanee scored for the Hoops on Wednesday night, in a crucial 2-0 win over St. Mirren.
Carter-Vickers, 24, has clocked up 34 appearances for Celtic this season in all competitions – more than any other club he has played for, despite six loan spells at previous clubs. He has helped keep 17 clean sheets.
The England-born USA international has a permanent clause included in his loan at Celtic – but other English clubs are becoming interested. He has a contract at Tottenham until the summer of 2023, but a move is expected.
West Ham, Leicester and Wolves are all interested in the £10million-rated ace. Certainly, they will have watched his performance on Wednesday night – in which he scored a brilliant goal, and kept a clean sheet at Parkhead.
The Scottish Daily Express gave Carter-Vickers a 9/10, reporting: “Good strength and played some nice long-range passes. Came up with the goods with a sweet volley after the restart to open the scoring.”
Carter-Vickers shines: What should Tottenham do with Celtic star?
The USA star is becoming an unlikely asset for Spurs. His form at Celtic has been superb, but a fee of £10million for the Hoops would make him a club-record signing. They might try to organise a smaller figure for the defender.
Tottenham might have more joy in selling to a Premier League rival – in getting the fee they want. But then they run the risk of improving a club in and around them – with Wolves, Leicester and West Ham of similar stature.
So, Spurs must decide – sell to Celtic for a fee a bit smaller than what Premier League clubs will offer, or gain maximum cash but strengthen a rival. An interesting summer awaits for the eight-time USA star.
