Much has been made about the penalty decision that went in favour of Everton in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield at the weekend.
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was adjudged to have committed a foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin inside the box in the 81st minute.
Everton scored from the resulting penalty to make it 2-0 and secure the three points from the Premier League match.
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has said that it was a penalty, and he has also pointed out the mistake from central defender Nathaniel Phillips in the build-up to the incident.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp actually praised the youngster after the match, but, according to Owen, he is to be partly blamed for the penalty incident.
Owen said on Premier League Productions: “We also must mention Nat Phillips in the build-up to that. Poor mistake trying to nick the ball in front of Richarlison, who is a big, strong lad himself. Sometimes you just have to let the attacking player have the ball.”

Everton would have won anyway
Everton were 1-0 up at that stage and were looking pretty comfortable at the back despite Liverpool piling on the pressure.
Even if the penalty was not given, Carlo Ancelotti’s side would have still won the match.
The Toffees were the better team over the course of the 90 minutes and are very much in the race for the Champions League places in the Premier League table this season.
