Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports Premier League (7:12pm, February 20, 2021) that he did not think that the penalty that Everton were given against Liverpool at Anfield was right.
Everton have got the better of Liverpool 2-0 away from home at Anfield in the Premier League this evening.
Richarlison put the Toffees in the lead in the third minute, and Gylfi Sigurdsson doubled the advantage in the 83rd minute from the penalty spot.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was adjudged to have been brought down inside the box by Trent Alexander-Arnold, and after a VAR check, a penalty was awarded.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher was on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports, and he did not think that it was a penalty.
Carragher said in the 83rd minute after the penalty was converted (Sky Sports Premier League, 7:12pm, February 20, 2021): “I think it’s very harsh. I really do.”
The Englishman added: “I don’t think it’s a penalty, but Everton won’t care.”

Big win for Everton
Everton deservedly picked up all three points from the Merseyside derby despite the controversial penalty decision.
The Toffees will be pleased with their performance and will know that the win has enhanced their chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table this season.
As for Liverpool, the defending Premier League champions will have to put together a run of positive results in the league to end up in the top four.
