HITC understands that Manchester United target Matthijs de Ligt is growing increasingly agitated at Bayern Munich.

Talks are still ongoing between both clubs to bring the 24-year-old defender to Old Trafford, but the deal has not progressed as expected.

Progress has started to stall with Manchester United and Bayern Munich unable to agree on Matthijs de Ligt‘s transfer fee.

As revealed by HITC earlier this month, De Ligt has agreed personal terms with United and the Red Devils were hoping to book a medical for the Dutchman before their tour of the United States.

United have moved quickly in the transfer window so far to complete deals for Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, while they continue to work on a move for Manuel Ugarte.

Erik ten Hag wanted De Ligt on board before United depart for their tour this week, but with both clubs still locked in talks that is now unlikely.

However, Ten Hag has spoken at length with his former Ajax star and reassured him of his role at Old Trafford.

Matthijs de Ligt unhappy with Bayern Munich price tag

HITC has been told by sources that De Ligt has made it abundantly clear to the hierarchy at Bayern Munich that he wants to move to Old Trafford.

He feels that their asking price is too high and that the club previously promised him that they would accept a smaller fee.

United’s current offer is worth €35million (£30million) with €5m of that in add-ons.

HITC has been told that United could increase their bid to €40million (£34million), but an agreement would still require Bayern Munich to come down significantly.

De Ligt has three years remaining on his Bayern contract.

Bayern Munich already planning for life after De Ligt

While Bayern are being stubborn on their asking price for De Ligt, their transfer business elsewhere suggests they are planning for his departure.

They remain interested in a deal for centre-back Jonathan Tah, who impressed during Bayer Leverkusen’s title-winning campaign last season.

However, talks over Tah’s transfer fee are also stalling which has put both deals at a standstill.
