Arsenal fans can now start to look forward to the new Premier League season and kicking off their campaign at home to Wolves on August 17.

Mikel Arteta would have been delighted to see his home nation Spain overcome the odds and become champions of Europe on Sunday.

Spain beat England in the Euro 2024 final, with two Arsenal players starting – Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice, whilst their two goalkeepers – David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale – watched from either side of their respective benches.

Of course, Arteta would have had his eyes on the game because he would have been cheering his home country on.

But you just wonder whether he would have had his coach’s head on and looking at players on that pitch to bring to the Emirates.

Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title on the last day of the previous campaign and they are looking for that extra edge to try and dethrone the might of Manchester City.

One man who impressed and surprised many at Euro 2024 was Chelsea’s previously struggling star Marc Cucurella because he was outstanding all tournament long.

And now the in-form left-back has praised one of his teammates – Mikel Merino – who is being tipped to join Arsenal this summer.

The 28-year-old was on the pitch for the semi-final and final wins, with Cucurella lauding and labelling him a ‘great philosopher’ in the comments section of the midfielder’s Instagram post.

Mikel Merino to be Granit Xhaka’s replacement?

Sources have told HITC that Merino is ready to depart Real Sociedad, with Arsenal keen and looking for their Granit Xhaka replacement.

The Switzerland star left last summer and Arsenal paid a club-record transfer for Declan Rice, although, he wasn’t deemed a replacement for Xhaka.

A player like Merino is more in the boat of Xhaka, in terms of their styles, so this would be a very good deal if Arsenal can get it done.

Yes, Thomas Partey is still at the club and Jorginho was an underrated figure last season, but they need depth in quality and the ability to rotate without the quality dropping.
