Manchester United have just 10 days until the curtains open on their new season with the Community Shield.
The Red Devils moved quickly to strengthen their squad with the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro this summer.
But with Erik ten Hag’s job under immense pressure following an underwhelming campaign last time out, the Dutchman will want more reinforcements this summer.
A new centre-back and midfielder are high up on the shopping list at Old Trafford, and United’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte should pick up speed after Joao Neves’ future was confirmed.
As for a new defender, United remain in talks with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt, but the two parties have been unable to reach an agreement.
The same can be said with Everton and Jarrad Branthwaite with the Toffees sticking firm to their £70million asking price.
Everton rejected a bid worth £50million for Branthwaite, but Manchester United remain in the race to sign the 22-year-old.

Manchester United must step up transfer pursuit
United are currently in the United States for their pre-season tour and Erik ten Hag’s side picked up a 3-2 win over Real Betis on Thursday morning.
But the Red Devils were without new signing Leny Yoro after he was pictured with crutches and a supportive boot – he is now expected to be sidelined for up to three months.
With the exciting 18-year-old signing out of action, Steve Nicol has urged United to be “really serious” about signing Branthwaite.
Speaking on ESPN, Nicol said “If they were thinking about it [signing Branthwaite], then they have to be really serious about it now.
“I’ve got to say, I feel bad for Yoro. Can you imagine being 18 and you’re going to be starting the season for Manchester United and then, bang.
“One challenge and all of a sudden he is sitting on his backside – absolute disaster.”
Jarrad Branthwaite is the answer
United already seemed very eager to sign a new centre-back this summer but Leny Yoro‘s injury means it is now paramount.
Yoro was expected to start the season alongside Lisandro Martinez in the heart of defence, but a new partner will now have to be signed.
Branthwaite could be the answer. He was described as a “monster” by Ian Wright earlier this year and his pace and physical attributes will allow him to cover Martinez’s flaws.
It seems the Toffees have already replaced him with their signing of Jake O’Brien, so a third bid will surely land on Everton’s desk shortly.
