HITC understands that Paris Saint-Germain are pushing to land Joao Neves and have opened talks with Benfica about a possible deal.

The French giants are eager to strike a deal for the 19-year-old but are not willing to meet his release clause of £101million (120million euros).

Instead, PSG plan to include one or two players in the deal to lower Benfica‘s asking price with a number of stars being considered.

It is understood that PSG and Benfica chiefs share good relations after previously striking a deal for Goncalo Ramos.

Joao Neves is happy to stay in Portugal for an extra year but he and his team are aware that he may have to leave this summer and view Paris as a good destination.

It inflicts a blow to Manchester United, who have been admirers of Neves even before he made his Benfica debut.

Red Devils scouts have thoroughly watched both Neves and Antonio Silva and United are being informed on the current situation.

Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool also share an interest in Neves and are keeping tabs on the situation but PSG are understood to be in pole position for his signature.

Joao Neves to PSG could accelerate Manuel Ugarte deal

While losing Neves would be a disappointment for United’s transfer chiefs – it seems they have already planned ahead.

Another name high up on their midfield shopping list is Manuel Ugarte. The club have held talks with the 23-year-old and he is quickly emerging as a top target this summer.

He has struggled to settle in after his £51million move to PSG last summer and HITC understands that United have been offered the chance to Ugarte.

Neves going to Paris could accelerate a deal that sees Ugarte move to Old Trafford this summer for half the price of the Portuguese midfielder.

HITC understands that Ugarte is keen to join Erik ten Hag’s side this summer.
