Shay Given has compared Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to Manchester United legend Roy Keane.

The former Republic of Ireland international added, like Keane during his playing days, Henderson is ‘making demands’ out on the pitch for Liverpool and getting the ‘best out of people’.

That’s a big reason why the 31-year-old dons the captain’s armband for the Merseyside giants.

Someone like Keane is regarded as perhaps the greatest captain of all-time, as Henderson has written his name into the history books at Anfield.

Signed for £20 million over ten years ago (BBC Sport), not many would have expected Henderson to have such a ‘phenomenal journey’, which ex-goalkeeper Given touched upon, as he told Premier League Productions.

“Look at Arsenal (against Newcastle), they haven’t enough leaders on the pitch,” said Given.

“But Jordan Henderson strikes me as a person, who off the pitch and on the pitch, you can see him shouting.

“I played with Roy Keane with Ireland. Making demands with people around you, get the best out of the people and pull people in.

“Even himself, he has been on a bit of a journey. When Kenny Dalglish first signed him, the fans were on his back, but to see that tweet, he has lifted six major trophies, it’s just a phenomenal journey.”

HENDERSON ONE OF LIVERPOOL’S GREATEST-EVER CAPTAINS

The Englishman has written his name into the history books at Liverpool because he is the only captain to lift six different trophies.

It’s a remarkable achievement from the hard-hitting midfielder, who can further enhance his reputation with the fans.

This Sunday, Liverpool fans will be hoping and praying for the favours of all favours from their club legend, Steven Gerrard.

Whatever happens on the final day, one thing that is in their hands is their monstrous Champions League final clash against Real Madrid in Paris.
