Either way, it’s remarkable that it has come to this, as Gary Neville stated on Instagram that Gerrard will be ‘desperate’ to help Liverpool win the Premier League title.

If they win that, then a point for Villa at the Etihad and three points for the Reds against Wolves will see the title head towards Merseyside.

“Obviously, he will be desperate to take points off Manchester City, so Liverpool can win the league. So, it has got quite a lot on it.

“Liverpool need to do their work in midweek against Southampton. I don’t think it’s about goal difference anymore.

“It’s basically about if Man City drop points against Villa. I don’t see them doing it. But there is some jeopardy there.”
