The football scripts are being written where Steven Gerrard could help Liverpool win the Premier League title by guiding his Aston Villa side to a result at Manchester City on the final day of the 2021/22 season.
If that doesn’t happen, then Jack Grealish, who made a British record £100 million transfer to Manchester City last summer, could score the crucial goal against his boyhood club that helps Pep Guardiola add a fourth title in five years to the club’s name.
Either way, it’s remarkable that it has come to this, as Gary Neville stated on Instagram that Gerrard will be ‘desperate’ to help Liverpool win the Premier League title.
Of course, Jurgen Klopp and his players need to do the job away at Southampton on Tuesday night.
If they win that, then a point for Villa at the Etihad and three points for the Reds against Wolves will see the title head towards Merseyside.
This is what Neville made of it all and the fairytale script that could unfold on the final day of the campaign.
“I am doing the Manchester City game next weekend,” said Neville. “They play Villa. Steven Gerrard is bringing his Villa team.
“Obviously, he will be desperate to take points off Manchester City, so Liverpool can win the league. So, it has got quite a lot on it.
“Liverpool need to do their work in midweek against Southampton. I don’t think it’s about goal difference anymore.
“It’s basically about if Man City drop points against Villa. I don’t see them doing it. But there is some jeopardy there.”

TEN YEARS SINCE THAT SERGIO AGUERO GOAL…DEJA VU?
Could we have a Sergio Aguero moment once again at the Etihad on Sunday?
It’s been ten years since that quite remarkable goal in English football.
Whilst Manchester City were on the right side that afternoon, it might just prove to be different at the weekend.
Either way, if Villa do indeed need to secure a point to possibly stop Man City from winning the title, then strap yourselves in because this ride might be like no other.
