Arsenal and Tottenham fans will be flabbergasted to hear what Danny Simpson has now revealed about Mark Clattenburg.
What’s the story?
Well, Arsenal and Tottenham were both involved in the Premier League title race back in the 2015/16 campaign, before Leicester ran away with it in the closing months to win by a 10-point margin.
Arsenal finished second while Spurs ended up third.
However – speaking on Under The Cosh – Simpson revealed that Clattenburg decided against sending Danny Drinkwater off in one game as he actually wanted Leicester to win the Premier League.
Now – if that is true – it is scandalous.

Simpson said: “I remember Clattenburg mate, wow. I think he should’ve sent someone off. He said something like, I should’ve sent you off there but I want youse to win it. I think it was Drinky (Drinkwater).
“Mate that was mad. That was mad you know, I swear to God. Good job there’s no VAR.
“I had to pretend I didn’t hear it. Inside I thought, yeah, we’re doing this.”
Clattenburg oversaw four Leicester games in that 2015/16 campaign, with the Foxes winning three and drawing one, therefore earning the ten points which saw them lift the Premier League title.
Arsenal & Tottenham should be furious
Of course, there is no changing the outcome now as we find ourselves seven years on from that season.
However, Simpson’s comments should enrage Arsenal and Tottenham fans – the fact a Premier League referee was actively making decisions to ensure one side in particular won the title is remarkable.
Admittedly, Leicester still did an incredible job that season to even have themselves in contention to qualify for a place in the Champions League, let alone win the Premier League.
Nevertheless, a title race is full of fine margins, and with Clattenburg clearly modifying his decisions to suit Leicester, fans of Arsenal and Tottenham should be in disbelief.
