Jamie O’Hara wants former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers to be Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager after missing out on Mauricio Pochettino to Chelsea and Julian Nagelsmann, as he used Unai Emery at Aston Villa, as an example.

The former midfielder expressed his annoyance at Daniel Levy not being able to bring in the sacked Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann or Chelsea-bound Mauricio Pochettino, as he now wants Brendan Rodgers through the doors at Tottenham, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (15/05/23 at 9:10 am).

On Saturday, Tottenham were dealt a blow in their race for Europe when Unai Emery’s Aston Villa produced an offside masterclass by securing a 2-1 win to go level on points with the north London in the Premier League table.

When the former Arsenal boss replaced Steven Gerrard at Villa Park in November, the Midlands outfit were hovering above the relegation zone on goal difference and 14 points behind Spurs.

Fast forward to the present and now there is every chance they can finish above the managerless club by the time the final ball is kicked for the 2022/23 season in a fortnight’s time.

Nonetheless, with talk that Nagelsmann won’t be going to Spurs, added with well-documented rumours that Pochettino is going to Chelsea, what next for the club? O’Hara pulled no punches when sharing his thoughts.

“The running of the football club has been a disaster as well,” said O’Hara. “Spurs were still in with a chance of Champions League football when they sacked Conte and he (Levy) didn’t bring in a manager.

“You bring in Ryan Mason, now don’t get me wrong. I like Ryan Mason. He is part of Tottenham. A nice guy. But come on!? You are giving someone a Ferrari. A Formula 1 car and he hasn’t even passed his test yet. Bring in someone that knows how to get wins.

“Look at Aston Villa with Unai Emery. I think they are a prime example of what a manager can do at a football club. I think we failed miserably again this year to get the running of the football club right.

“I wanted Nagelsmann. I really did. I think Daniel Levy is umming and ahhing over it. I would have had Pochettino. I thought it would have been good to have him back. I don’t think Levy knows what he wants. I don’t think he has a plan. I really don’t.

On who he would go for as Spurs’ next boss given that it won’t be Nagelsmann and Pochettino: “Brendan Rodgers,” responded the former midfielder.

WILL BRENDAN RODGERS BE TOTTENHAM’S NEXT MANAGER?

Well, after getting sacked by relegation-threatened Leicester City, Rodgers is now a free agent.

The 50-year-old won the FA Cup during his time at the King Power Stadium and helped them to numerous fifth-placed finishes.

All of that happened under the blanket of playing free-flowing attacking football, something Spurs fans are craving, so will he be the club’s next manager? Don’t bet Levy against handing him the keys.
