According to a new report by the Evening Standard, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is aware of just how talented Liverpool-linked midfielder, Mason Mount is due to his successful loan stint at Vitesse.

On Thursday, it was reported that even Jurgen Klopp was interested in signing the £80,000-a-week midfielder at Chelsea, whose contract runs out in 2024. The Reds are in desperate need of strengthening their midfield, which has been subpar throughout the campaign.

But now, it seems as if Erik ten Hag has always kept an eye on Liverpool target Mason Mount, going back to his days at Vitesse in the Eredivisie.

Erik ten Hag has liked Liverpool target Mason Mount since Vitesse days

The question worth posing is whether this could affect the Merseyside-based club in their pursuit for the ‘phenomenal’ England international in the summer.

As reported by the Evening Standard, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been ‘aware’ of just how talented Mason Mount is since his loan spell at Vitesse, where he won Eredivisie Player of the Season and played a key role in his side’s win against Ajax.

In our view: Mount is more of a Reds player

During the Reds’ golden era, one aspect that characterized their team’s strengths is their workmanlike midfield.

Since his time at Chelsea, the 24-year-old. has suited an advanced No.8 role the best, where his ‘fantastic energy’ coupled with flashes of creativity has made him such a well-rounded midfielder, which is exactly what the Merseyside-based club need.

On the contrary, one assumes whether Erik ten Hag may utilise Mount as a backup to Bruno Fernandes in a No.10 role, due to his output at Vitesse, which is another reason why he fits the bill of a Liverpool midfielder more.

The Champions League winner ticks a number of boxes rather than being a specialist at one specific trait, and whichever club identifies that could be signing a special player, who Steven Gerrard feels is ‘one of the best’ on the planet.
