Liverpool fans might be getting a sense of the same old, same old with their owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
The Reds aren’t known to be ambitious in their spending like their rivals, and when they do splash the cash, you feel it’s long overdue.
Arne Slot is the new Liverpool manager and the Anfield faithful are hoping their owners welcome him with open arms and allow him to spend freely.
But already, Liverpool could be about to lose out on a major signing because highly-rated teenager Leny Yoro jets in for his Manchester United medical, after strong interest from the League Cup winners.
This can’t be a common theme for the club throughout this summer, with pre-season underway, because it will prove nothing has changed in the boardroom since Jurgen Klopp’s exit.
It was pointed out by Jeff Stelling that Slot is someone who ‘loves’ wingers and that he has some to work with on Merseyside.
Cody Gakpo enjoyed a fruitful Euro 2024 campaign with the Netherlands, whilst Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah are still at the club.
So, could Liverpool possibly bring in more attacking talent ahead of the new Premier League season?

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has been talked about by Liverpool, including Euro 2024 winner with Spain, Nico Williams.
Any of those types of players, especially the sought-after Athletic Bilbao star, would enhance Liverpool’s forward line and take them to the next level.
But Jeff Stelling suggested that those two are deals that won’t be happening now, even if Liverpool are going to be playing an ‘exciting brand of football’ under their new coach, as he told talkSPORT (16/07/24 at 9:25 am).
Anthony Gordon and Nico Williams won’t be joining Liverpool
“He (Slot) reportedly loves wingers, so it promises to be entertaining,” said Stelling. “He has got plenty there, at the moment, assuming they all stay. Diaz, Salah and Gakpo, who was terrific during his time at the Euros.
“They have been linked with Anthony Gordon. Linked with Nico Williams. I don’t think that’s going to happen. But it sounds like he is going to play an exciting brand of football.”

Liverpool need more quality
The manner in which Liverpool ended the campaign, both from an attacking and defensive sense can’t be ignored.
It also needs to be noted that when they were sitting top of the Premier League table, it wasn’t like everything was going smoothly.

The common consensus was that they weren’t anywhere near their best and that eventually caught up with them.
Slot needs added quality across the pitch and it’s not going to be a great way to welcome your new manager if he isn’t backed in the transfer market because it’s hard enough trying to replace Klopp.
