Liverpool will be looking to reignite their rivalry with Real Madrid next season.

The Reds might be without Jurgen Klopp now, but they will return to the Champions League next season after their third-placed finish during the recently concluded Premier League campaign.

Real Madrid themselves are building another superstar team after winning the Champions League final at Borussia Dortmnd’s expense at Wembley.

To make matters worse for the rest of Europe, they are adding a certain Kylian Mbappe to their ranks for next season.

But what if they added one of Liverpool’s best players, too? It would become beyond crazy.

Dean Saunders suggested that he doesn’t want to see Trent Alexander-Arnold playing at right-back for England ahead of Euro 2024.

The former striker thinks Alexander-Arnold is better in the middle of the park and added that he could even ‘play in midfield’ for the champions of Europe, as he told talkSPORT.

Even though the Anfield star has played right-back throughout his career at club level, he is being used differently on the international stage.

There is every chance that Gareth Southgate selects Alexander-Arnold to play in midfield, alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, for England’s Euro 2024 opener against Serbia on Sunday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield for Real Madrid

“I’ve said in the past, if Trent plays right-back you’ve got to score two goals because he gives one away,” said Saunders. “But, in midfield, I think he’s more suited, especially when he drifts out to the right and you can allow him to float and play with [Bukayo] Saka and Kyle Walker and join that triangle

“You know when the ball comes to him, he’s whipping a cross around people, he’s hitting a diagonal, he’s chopping it into feet. I think he’s the most creative player, but it remains to be seen. I think he could play for Real Madrid in midfield.

“I think the combination of [Jude] Bellingham, [Declan] Rice and Trent is perfect. Trent can do things nobody else can do.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold under Arne Slot

A new chapter begins on Merseyside now and Arne Slot has a huge job on his hands to continue pushing Liverpool towards the top of the table.

Players like Alexander-Arnold are great success stories of the Klopp era and he is a player that became one of the best fullbacks in the world under the German’s stewardship.

The attacking side of the Englishman’s game will be very much loved by Slot, it’s just going to be interesting to see how he is going to be used.

Will Slot also follow Southgate’s path of playing the all-action right-back in midfield? It’s not like Liverpool have certain starters performing at the highest level in that role, so this is something worth looking out for.
