Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has given his verdict on incoming manager Arne Slot, after Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

After Jurgen Klopp’s announced his departure from Liverpool earlier in the season, the Anfield club had been working hard on identifying a replacement for the enigmatic German.

Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso was mentioned, as was Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim, but the key decisionmakers at Anfield decided that Feyenoord manager Arne Slot was the man to take the club forward.

Slot will take the reins of a young, exciting squad but there are question marks about the future of some key players at Anfield.

Robertson on Slot

One player who will not be leaving Anfield this summer is Scottish left-back Andy Robertson, who has been a key part of the team for the Reds for seven years, and he has spoken about the Dutchman’s appointment.

“I haven’t spoken to him (Slot) yet,” said the full-back, who is preparing for Scotland’s European Championship campaign, to Sky Sports.

“I think he’s leaving us to focus on the Euros. It’s an exciting new challenge. Obviously the old era was pretty special and I’ve got a lot to be thankful for for that manager but obviously excited now by the new manager coming in – new ideas, new voice – and I’m really excited for what can come with that.

“I’ve got no doubts we can keep that momentum going. From all the reports we’ve had, the manager’s very good and I can’t wait to see that up close.”

Slot’s big shoes to fill

Slot may well be a superb manager but the Dutchman will certainly have big shoes with the personality and character seen from Klopp set to be missing, the 45-year-old will have to replicate this.

Robertson was asked about this and he said: “The last eight, nine years were pretty special. Maybe they’re going a bit into the unknown but it has to be exciting; the squad’s in a good place, we had a good season last season.”

The wing-back pairing of Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be key for Slot, who certainly wants his full-backs to be pushing high.
