Liverpool and Manchester United enjoyed pretty interesting seasons last time out, with the duo delivering trophies, but not getting what they want in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp won the League Cup in his final season in charge, but he would have been gutted at his team’s performance as they fell away in the Premier League title race.
On the other hand, Manchester United produced their worst top-flight campaign in three decades.
But Erik ten Hag still guided Manchester United to FA Cup glory, including beating Liverpool on the way in one of the great games in recent memory.
Either way, there was still a lot of noise around the Dutchman’s future and whether or not he will remain in his post at Old Trafford.
After long speculation, Manchester United confirmed a new deal for ten Hag and they are now starting to back him in the summer transfer market, including trying to tie down their star players to new contracts.
Dan Ashworth is prioritising a new contact for Kobbie Mainoo at Manchester United, with the 19-year-old having a breakthrough campaign last term.
Mainoo was also part of England’s Euro 2024 squad and now he will return to club action where he won’t be the only rising teenager on show.
This is where Liverpool fans should look away because they should be rightfully fuming.
Manchester United confirm Leny Yoro deal
On Thursday evening, Manchester United confirmed on their website that Leny Yoro has joined the club from Lille and signed a contract until 2029.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the best prospects in world football and recently enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in France.
Liverpool were working hard to convince Yoro to join them, but in the end, nothing materialised and now they will have to watch the ball-playing centre-back thrive in the colours of their rivals.

Manchester United show Liverpool how it should be done
Both clubs need added centre-back quality to their squad ahead of the new Premier League season. They have two certain starters in their teams.
Virgil van Dijk is the main man for Liverpool, whilst Copa America winner Lisandro Martinez isn’t going to be moved from his place at Manchester United.

But after that, it’s up for debate as to who starts next to them and you feel a player like Yoro would have been perfect for van Dijk to work alongside.
Instead, Manchester United have beaten several big clubs to his signature and this is now his time to shine.
