Kylian Mbappe’s run in the 2026 World Cup was threatened after a 77th-minute substitution against Morocco with an ankle injury.
Mbappe is tied for the leading scorer at the World Cup and is expected to one day be the all-time leading scorer in the competition.
But his bid to lead France to a third-straight World Cup final has been threatened by the fears of an ankle injury.
Didier Deschamps confirms Kylian Mbappe’s status before World Cup semi-final
Ahead of their semi-final clash against Spain, France manager Didier Deschamps’ message on Mbappe’s status as 100% fit was revealed by The Athletic.
“France coach Didier Deschamps said that forward Kylian Mbappe is ‘100 per cent’ fit and will be ready for Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final against Spain.”
Mbappe picked up the ankle injury during their 2-0 win over Morocco, with France substituting him as a precautionary measure. The French forward has insisted he is fine, but had a reduced training workload on Monday in preparation for the semi-finals.

The match against Spain is France’s opportunity to get revenge on their Euro 2024 elimination, while it’s a chance for Spain to affirm their superiority as the best national team in Europe.
Facing Mbappe at anything less than a 100% is a bonus for Spain, but Deschamps has made it clear that their talisman will be ready for the action.
Kylian Mbappe’s incredible 2026 World Cup run
Mbappe has decisively proven to the world that he’s a World Cup specialist. He has eight goals in six games this edition, currently tied with Lionel Messi for the Golden Boot.
Mbappe also has three assists as part of a deadly French attack alongside Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise.
Spain comes into the semis with the best defense at the World Cup, conceding just one goal in the entire competition. It’s a true stylistic clash where the best team will emerge victorious.
If Mbappe wants to continue building his legacy as the greatest World Cup player of all-time, he has to add another historic appearance in the Final to cement his name in those conversations.
