Tottenham have been warned about hiring Julian Nagelsmann as Richard Keys makes a bizarre claim about Frank Lampard.

What’s the story?

Well – according to The TimesNagelsmann is Tottenham‘s No.1 choice to replace Antonio Conte.

However, if Keys was in Daniel Levy’s position, he would be going nowhere near the German.

The beIN Sports presenter wrote: “I fail to see what Julian Nagelsmann knows that Frank Lampard doesn’t. If it’s a straight choice between the two I’d go with the legend that knows Chelsea inside out – not someone who might have a more impressive power-point display but knows nothing about the club or our league.”

In our view, that is utter nonsense.

Yes, Nagelsmann doesn’t have any Premier League experience, although his achievements in management at the age of just 35 outweigh anything the 44-year-old Lampard has accomplished.

The German took RB Leipzig into the UEFA Champions League Semi-Final for the first time in their history back in the 2019/20 campaign, while he also has three trophies to his name.

Lampard has none.

Nagelsmann & Lampard comments echo Guardiola’s arrival

When we first read what Keys wrote about Lampard and Nagelsmann, Pep Guardiola sprung to mind.

The Spaniard – who also adopts brave, unique tactical ideas like Nagelsmann – was told he would not be able to play his style in England by a number of big names in the media, such as Stan Collymore.

Writing in the Mirror, the 52-year-old stated: “If he thinks he’s going to turn up and outplay everybody in the Premier League, and that teams are going to let his Manchester City side have the ball for 90% of the time and pass pretty patterns around them so they can get a result, then he is absolutely deluded. In fact, he is beyond deluded.”

For some reason, a number of footballing dinosaurs like Keys and Collymore seem to think that a manager with no Premier League experience is useless, which is probably why we’ve seen the likes of David Moyes, Sam Allardyce, Roy Hodgson, Alan Pardew and Lampard passed around the division over the years.

To conclude, any Tottenham fan who has gone off Nagelsmann after reading what Keys wrote should have a rethink – it is well wide of the mark.
