Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said on Premier League Productions that Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams were nervous in the opening minutes against Manchester United.

Klopp has said that the passing of Liverpool central defenders Williams and Phillips in the beginning of the Premier League game at Old Trafford was not great.

The Liverpool boss has added that after the initial period, the 20-year-old and the 24-year-old grew into the game, which the Reds won 4-2.

Klopp said on Premier League Productions: “We saw that our two centre-halves might be a little bit shaking in the beginning of the game, we could see that with the passing, but in the moment when we were in the game, they forgot everything around them and played a really good game.”

United were the better of the two teams against Liverpool in the opening stages of the encounter.

In fact, the Red Devils found the back of the net after just 10 minutes.

Bruno Fernandes’s shot was deflected into the back of his own net by Phillips, who was criticised by former United defender Neville for the goal.

Phillips put that mistake behind him, was controversially denied a penalty, and provided the assist for Diogo Jota’s goal.

Williams did not play well against United last time out, but the young defender looked more assured and calm at the back last night.

The win against United has maintained Liverpool’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

However, the Reds still need to win all three of their remaining games.

The way that Liverpool played and scored four goals at Old Trafford on Thursday evening will surely encourage the fans.
