Roy Keane has said on Sky Sports Premier League (9:19pm, May 13, 2021) that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were denied a penalty against Manchester United at Old Trafford this evening.

The former United midfielder believes that the challenge from defender Eric Bailly on Liverpool defender Phillips in the first half was a foul.

Bailly got the ball in the challenge inside the penalty box, but in the follow-up, he caught the English defender, who went down to the ground.

A spot kick was awarded, but after a VAR check it was overturned, with United 1-0 up at that stage.

While Keane felt that it was a penalty, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker does not think that it was a spot kick.

Keane said on Sky Sports Premier League (9:19pm, May 13, 2021): “I think it was a penalty just because, okay, he gets the ball, but what happens afterwards. Reckless.”

It was quite a controversial call.

While Bailly did get the ball, many will question whether his follow-up should have been punished.

However, it did not affect Liverpool in the end, as Klopp’s side won the match 4-2.

The win keeps Liverpool, who won the Premier League title last season, very much in the race for the Champions League places.

However, the Reds have to do better defensively, as the way they conceded the first goal was not good at all.

Liverpool’s final three Premier League games of the season are against West Bromwich Albion, Burnley and Crystal Palace.
