According to Bruno Andrade, West Ham have offered Liverpool target Matheus Nunes six times his current salary.

What’s the story?

Well, the east Londoners are clearly determined to sign the Portugal international, as they are putting some serious money on the negotiating table.

Andrade believes West Ham have offered a total package worth €35m (£30m) to Sporting Lisbon, while also offering to times his £13,000-a-week wages by six.

However, while Sporting Lisbon are happy with the money on offer, it is Nunes himself who has decided against a move to the London Stadium, as he wants to join a “bigger project” in English football.

It comes after some sources claimed that Liverpool are keeping an eye on the 23-year-old.

In our view, the Reds could be encouraged to make an offer of their own after hearing that Nunes wants to join a “bigger project” – there are few places more attractive than Anfield in European football right now.

Wolves are also pushing hard to sign the Portuguese playmaker, who is wanted by Leeds as well.

Interest in Nunes comes after he made 50 appearances in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon last season, scoring four goals while also providing five assists.

West Ham could have signed Liverpool target

In our view, West Ham will kick themselves for missing out on Europa League football, as it could have been the difference in luring Nunes to east London.

Of course, UEFA Conference League football is still good to be involved in, and it will surely help West Ham obtain other targets.

However, with Nunes clearly setting his sights high, Europa League football could’ve been enough to convince Nunes.

If they haven’t done so already, perhaps it would be worth West Ham telling Nunes that he can leave after one season if they do not qualify for the Champions League in one final attempt to convince him.

That would be a risky game to play, but on the basis of what he’s showing in the Primeira Liga, he is worth pushing the boat out for.
