Despite the change in manager, transfer expert Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Rangers will continue to pursue a deal for striker Antoine Semenyo at Ibrox ahead of the January window – amid reports Celtic have held talks.

Semenyo, 22, is currently at the World Cup with Ghana. The Black Stars will learn of their fate on Friday, when they take to the field for their final group game – facing Uruguay. Ghana are in a good position to qualify, but must avoid a loss.

The London-born Ghana star came off the bench against Portugal, but failed to play against South Korea. He will be hoping for a chance against Uruguay. At Bristol City, Semenyo has been excellent – scoring and creating 38 goals.

But his contract is set to expire in the summer. The Robins have the option for a further 12 months. Sports World Ghana reported last month that Rangers were planning a £5million bid. Football Scotland say Celtic have held talks.

“It makes a lot of sense that part of the reason they got Beale is not just because of his leadership skills or his ability to spot a player, but because of the links that he’s got, and the nous that he’s got of a level that is going to suit them.

“And I think that does include dropping into the Championship to find talent, and Semenyo is one of those that I’m sure will be linked umpteen times before the window actually opens,” Jones told Give Me Sport, on Semenyo.

Despite change in manager Rangers will continue to pursue Semenyo

Little surprise. Ross Wilson has remained and the chances are that interest in Semenyo is likely to stem from him. If anything it has strengthened given Beale will have more knowledge of the Championship, than the man he is replacing.

Semenyo is a wonderful talent and a move to Rangers could give him the stage to shine. The Gers need a player out wide to compliment Ryan Kent on the other flank – and perhaps, replace Kent. He is out of contract next June.
