According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle and Everton target Sasa Kalajdzic asked to be left out by VfB Stuttgart as he is expecting a bid from Wolves.
What’s the story?
Well, this transfer saga seems to be coming to an end, with Bruno Lage set to fend off interest from Eddie Howe and Frank Lampard to sign the Austria international.
Romano believes Kalajdzic specifically asked not to feature in VfB Stuttgart’s Bundesliga clash with Köln tomorrow afternoon, as he does not want to ruin his chances of a move to Wolves by picking up an injury.
The 25-year-old expects a bid to arrive from Wolves in the next 48 hours.
Romano adds that VfB Stuttgart are demanding a fee in the region of €20m – €25m (£17m – £21m) for their No.9 ahead of the September 1st deadline, and Wolves are currently preparing a new offer after recently seeing a bid worth £12.7m rejected.
Kalajdzic has featured in all three of VfB Stuttgart’s Bundesliga games so far this season, providing three assists but failing to get on the scoresheet.
Newcastle & Everton could regret losing out to Wolves
In our view, Newcastle and Everton could be left wondering what could’ve been if Wolves manage to wrap up the signing of Kalajdzic.
The Austrian is a 6ft 7in giant who knows how to use his frame to good effect in front of goal, while he is also adept with his feet – in the Premier League, a notoriously physical division, he should thrive.

Manchester United and Tottenham have also shown interest in Kalajdzic in recent times, so he is clearly doing something right over in Germany.
In fact, it was even said that Erik ten Hag wanted him to replace Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal international expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford, which speaks volumes about how highly the VfB Stuttgart hitman is rated.
Keep an eye on this situation, as further developments should happen shortly.
