Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has broken his silence on the Jaylen Brown trade.
For the first time in a decade, the Boston Celtics will kick off a new season without Jaylen Brown on the roster.
After all, the 18-time NBA champions engaged in a blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia 76ers, sending Brown to Philly in exchange for a trade package around Paul George.

Joe Mazzulla reacts to the Jaylen Brown trade
Since the trade was made official, fans have been waiting for reactions of key members of the Celtics. Jayson Tatum and Brad Stevens had previously shared their thoughts on the shocking trade.
Now, it was the turn of Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, who hinted at a mix of on and off-court reasons for the C’s pulling the trigger on the trade.
“I think the reaction is just still processing it,” Mazzulla said. “Obviously, when something like that happens. It’s not a black-and-white type of thing. There’s a ton of stuff that goes into it on and off the court.”
He added, “The part that I hope gets talked about more, is really just the respect the appreciation and the gratitude for what he did for the Celtics for 10 years.”
Considering Brown played a crucial role in the Celtics’ 2024 NBA Championship run, there’s no doubt that he’ll be respected by the fanbase for years.
But it still doesn’t change the fact that Brown was blindsided by the trade, as he never officially demanded a move away from the Celtics.
