Tottenham Hotspur are playing some of the best football in the Premier League.
They have Ange Postecoglou to thank for that because he has flipped the team’s style of play from a defensive outfit to one that plays as expansive as anyone in Europe.
Some of the key players in Tottenham’s all-action system are their fullbacks – Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie.
They have been outstanding for Spurs this season and a key reason why the team finished fifth in the Premier League table.
Postecoglou asks his fullbacks to practically play like number 10s, and whilst fans are happy with the starters, more depth is required ahead of next season and a return to Europe.
Spurs fans might have had their eye on the Championship play-off final on Sunday where Southampton beat Leeds United to make an instant return to the Premier League.
A certain Kyle Walker-Peters, four years after leaving north London, was in action and he put in an outstanding performance, especially against danger man, Crysencio Summerville.
Jeff Stelling thinks Walker-Peters is now ‘one of the best fullbacks’ in the country, even though he has been playing second-tier football for the past 12 months, as he told talkSPORT (27/05/24 at 6:25 am).
There is no doubt that the 27-year-old was too good for the Championship and he should be playing Premier League football.
Kyle Walker-Peters after Tottenham Hotspur exit
“There will be some players in that squad, who by getting themselves promoted, will have played themselves out of a new deal,” said Stelling about the Southampton players.
“But I look at some of the base, and you mention Adam Armstrong. Stuart Armstrong, David Brooks, Harwood-Bellis who is going to be staying, Che Adams, Flynn Downes, who has been brilliant.
“And Kyle Walker-Peters, for me, he is one of the best fullbacks in the country, regardless of which division he plays in. They have got a little base and foundation already. He loves Will Smallbone as well, doesn’t he?!”

Will Tottenham Hotspur re-sign Kyle Walker-Peters?
You could argue that he could do a job for Spurs now and he would suit what Postecoglou wants from his fullbacks, not forgetting that he can operate on both sides.
Plus, he is better than what the manager can pick from, including the likes of Saudi Arabia-linked Emerson Royal and Ben Davies.

Sources have told HITC that Spurs are keen on a reunion with their former player, but they aren’t willing to play close to the £30 million buy-back clause in his contract.
This one is probably one to watch out for because Walker-Peters does have 12 months remaining on his contract and you feel he will have to sign a new deal or leave this summer.
