Jaylen Brown seems self-admittedly disillusioned with living his dream as an NBA player after getting traded by the Boston Celtics.
Brown spent 10 seasons with the Celtics, delivering the franchise a championship and winning the Finals MVP award. He also led them to the No. 3 seed in the East last season despite missing co-star Jayson Tatum.
Despite that, blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round led to him being traded to the rival franchise that beat them, leaving Brown stunned and disillusioned.
Jaylen Brown openly warns against becoming a basketball player
Brown appeared on IShowSpeed’s stream during the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Morocco and France, discussing his recent trade with Speed and sharing a warning about the NBA’s business.
“I just got traded. They packed me up, bro. It’s a crazy business, bro. Don’t become a basketball player. There’s no loyalty, there’s no love. They packed me up and said sayonara, I’m outta here.”
Brown’s guaranteed to make $420.2 million over his career without factoring in future NBA contracts, so it’s hard to take his advice for other hoopers who dream of making it to that level.
Brown averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 674 games as a Celtic and is a franchise icon, but was intentionally sent to their rivals in Philadelphia after a decade of tireless service.
It is a cold business, and Brown’s exit from Boston proves that nothing can ever truly protect you from getting traded.
Jaylen Brown survived various Celtics trade attempts until he didn’t
It was an open secret that the Celtics couldn’t trade Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo earlier in the summer, making it clear that the franchise still eyed a different long-term co-star for Tatum.

The Celtics have previously failed to trade Brown for stars like Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis, but he’s always returned to the franchise and maintained professionalism.
While another superstar trade failed, Brown didn’t expect the Celtics to move on from him by swapping him for a 36-year-old Paul George because George’s contract is one year shorter.
The 76ers have gotten an All-NBA caliber star who was in MVP consideration last season. While he would’ve preferred to continue as a Celtic, he has all the motivation to exact his revenge when he faces them at least four times next season in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.
