The debate over whether Anthony Davis will get traded before he ever plays a game for the Washington Wizards might just have been settled.
Davis joined the Wizards after the Dallas Mavericks unceremoniously traded him in February 2026 to move on from the doomed Luka Doncic trade.
With Davis still yet to play a game, his name has been in trade rumors all summer, especially in a move by the Golden State Warriors to entice LeBron James.
Anthony Davis’ agent confirms plans with the Wizards amid trade rumors
On the latest episode of the Game Over podcast with Rich Paul and Max Kellerman, Davis’ agent Paul confirmed that Davis will stay with the Wizards to start the season.
“Yes. Why wouldn’t he?”
After Kellerman directly questioned him on potential trade rumors surrounding Davis, Paul made it clear that he ‘doesn’t know anything about that.’
While this might be a negotiating tactic if any trade talks are going on behind the scenes, it does seem like a message that Davis just isn’t on the market for the sake of a change.
However, it doesn’t rule out a team potentially chasing after a Davis trade to improve their roster, and potentially entice LeBron James into joining up with his 2020 championship teammate.
Warriors’ pathway to Anthony Davis and LeBron James looks all but closed
Golden State has had a quiet offseason, presumably waiting on the fallout of the LeBron James decision before finalizing their roster for next season.
While the Warriors seemed like favorites to land LeBron for a minute after he announced he’d leave the Lakers, they’ve quickly fallen out of favor as a weaker destination than other interested teams.

Acquiring Davis could be a Hail Mary attempt at giving LeBron more reason to join, but it comes at the cost of trading Jimmy Butler, who the franchise has repeatedly stated will not be traded.
With Butler spending most of next season injured and the team not intending to trade him, it makes Golden State an even worse destination for LeBron.
It seems Davis will remain in Washington and help the franchise return to winning ways with Trae Young and AJ Dybantsa by his side, while LeBron likely joins a new contender for a one-season run at a ring.
