It’s just the first week of the new Premier League season and Jamie O’Hara already feels fed up with Tottenham Hotspur.
Ange Postecoglou’s side enjoyed their pre-season campaign, with mixed results, lots of goals scored and several young stars performing.
On top of that, Tottenham have had a pretty strong summer transfer window so far, which further increased the fans’ excitement levels ahead of their Premier League opener against Leicester City on Monday night.
From Tottenham securing the transfer of Archie Gray from Leeds United to Dominic Solanke making his Tottenham debut at the King Power Stadium, there was a reason for cheer.
But after 90 minutes, the London club were haunted by Jamie Vardy after the one-time Premier League title winner helped Leicester record a 1-1 draw against Spurs.
Many players were getting stick left, right and centre for their performances because, after a dominant first-half display from the team, they hardly turned up during the second 45 minutes and were fortunate to earn a draw, in the end.
Usually, at this of the season, O’Hara is predicting and backing Spurs to win the Premier League title because he is usually beyond excited by how they have started the campaign.
But it’s fair to say that hasn’t happened, as yet, and he admitted one certain player, in particular, ‘more than anyone winds me up’.
O’Hara didn’t hold back in his criticism of Brennan Johnson and how he is ‘so frustrating’ to watch because of his lack of quality in the final third.
The former midfielder added that Johnson ‘needs to hit the ground running’ this season because the same old problems are resurfacing, as he told talkSPORT.
Brennan Johnson’s performances
“Brennan Johnson, for me, he has to be better,” said O’Hara. “We paid £50 million. He is more than anyone who winds me up.
“Every time he gets the ball, it looks like he forgets how to control it. He is so frustrating. He needs to be better in a Spurs shirt. If you are going to play right-wing for Spurs, you think of all the great right-wingers we have had. He needs to be better.
“He has been there a season and he needs to hit the ground running. Brennan Johnson needs to be better. For me, he hasn’t been good enough – Brennan Johnson needs to give me more. His final ball isn’t good enough. The amount of times Maddison in the first half sweeps the ball out to him and his first touch just lets him down. He knows it as well because he looks at himself.”
Jason Cundy then told his fellow pundit that he is being ‘harsh’ with Johnson and how ‘you can’t compare him with Jimmy Greaves or Aaron Lennon’ by telling him ‘you can’t do that and it’s not fair. You are having a pop and things can improve’.

Tottenham’s attack
It has been previously suggested that Johnson will never be a ‘top player’ at Tottenham, as the club’s lack of clinical edge in the final third is rearing its ugly head again.
That’s where fans will be hoping that Solanke can provide that cutting-edge because he has been brought in as the main goal threat.

There is also captain Son Heung-min, but he is 32 and the team simply can’t rely upon their long-serving player much longer.
Richarlison was praised for turning down a move to Saudi Arabia, but he has played a part in the team’s issues in the final third and this is make or break for him also.
